Gotta Get Down on Friday

TGIF at GReads! {50}: Love Stories

I’ve never participated in this particular meme but today’s question from G at GReads! really made me a giggly girl so I thought I’d participate today!

Today’s question is: What are some of your favorite fictional love stories?

Although I’m not really a romantic person in the traditional sense, I do love love. You know, that tingly can’t control your face smiling butterflies going berserk in your stomach feeling? There’s nothing quite as nice as that. I usually shy away from cheesy love – like that found in most romantic comedies or chick lit – and gravitate towards nerdy, awkwardy, sweet romance. The kind I love to find.

This plays over in books too… While I do love passionate love stories where there’s tons of drama and action and you can’t help but swoon when the characters kiss for the first time, sometimes those love stories that just kind of sneak up on you tend to be my most memorable ones.

I’ve divided my favorite love stories into two parts… Swoony Love and Sneaky Love

Swoony Love

Tris and Four from Divergent

Who DIDN’T swoon over these two? Just hands touching incited all sorts of lovey feelings, nearly giving me the vapors! (hey, I’m from the South.. we get the vapors down here)

Jace and Clary from The Mortal Instruments Series

Although I’m really ready for their story to end – I mean, just get together and do it already! – this is honestly one of the hottest couples I’ve read about in the sense that there’s SO much that keeps them apart that it’s literally tense to read about them. Even when we thought – spoiler! – they were related I still wanted them to get together (hey, I’m from the South… some people down here date their relatives. JK!).

Amy and Ben from Texas Gothic

There is so much sexual/love tension in this book that you just may need a cold shower! They HATE each other in the beginning, so of course you know they’re going to fall in love. And when they do… kablooey! It’s just great.

Sneaky Love

Rhine and Linden from Wither

No, this wasn’t really a “love story” in the traditional sense, but I don’t know… I might have fallen a little for him and Rhine the second time I experienced this book. Although I really loved Gabriel because he was a total hottypants, there were many times when I found myself seriously rooting for Linden.

Anna and St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss

If you haven’t read about my obsession with BGFFs (Best Guy Friends Forever), listen closely – THIS BOOK EXEMPLIFIES EXACTLY WHY I LOVE THEM! Okay, that aside… I love when two people become friends and then fall in love. I think these are the sweetest love stories and I’d say easily 99% of my favorite couples are BFFs before they became couples.

Kate and Henry from The Goddess Test series

Their love is for all time – literally. Although I really loved Henry in The Goddess Test, the way he was caring and sweet to Kate… how he came and had sexy slumber parties… But it wasn’t until Goddess Interrupted that their love snuck up on me and wowzer! I hadn’t realized that I had been holding my breath for two books until… Well I won’t spoil the fun for you!

Yay for love and happy (early) Valentine’s day!

  1. that’s a great list. i need to get on with reading “the goddess test” — but, like always, i want to wait until the last book is out…i hope the world doesn’t end in december, that would suck.
I, too, love bffs who fall in love, they’re the best. 🙂

    1. Yeah… as much as I’ve loved the Goddess Test series so far, a tiny part of me wishes I didn’t discover it until the final book came out… I do not do well with waiting! And yes… I hope the world doesn’t end in December either; I have a big birthday planned for next January! haha

  2. Oh le sigh to sweet awkwardy love! I SO relate to that. I have not read Texas Gothic (but I take it that I should check it out) but I really enjoyed all of these love stories. I especially love that you pointed out Rhine and Linden. I mean, I know it’s a little weird that he has the gates locked and all, but you know he’s a total victim or captive of his creepster dad. I felt bad for the guy. Also, holla to the BGFFs! They make for the best love stories ever.
