True Story Thursday

True Story Thursday: Welcome back, To that same old place that you laughed about

So, hi friends. It’s been a while, no? How’ve you been? What’s the hap? Read any good books lately?

I’ve been so out of the loop and just kind of wanted to pop in and give you all an update on what I’ve been up to because, obviously, you’ve all been on tenterhooks wondering about me. So here’s what’s been going on the past 4-5 or so months:

I went to Chicago! My company had their annual fall show up there and I got to spend an entire week in such a great city. I’d never been, so obviously it was a complete adventure and I am dying to go back and be a total tourist who doesn’t have to spend 8-10 hours a day inside a giant convention center. Here are some of my favorite pictures I took while I was there:

Last month I got to write not one but TWO pieces for a local publication. I haven’t gotten to see the final thing, but apparently today the grocery store right down from my office will have them and I will be going to get a copy. The first piece was strictly my own thing and was about fall things that make our community great. I had a blast writing it! The second piece I worked on was really more just writing information and quoting people about upcoming winter events, but I was still excited to get to write it! I don’t know if I’ll be doing anymore; perhaps I should ask… I’ll be sure to share the digital version if it ever comes out!

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it, but I’m the president of my sorority alumnae chapter and that’s been very interesting. I’ve never actually been a leader of a club/organization, but feel like it’s SO right. I’ve really enjoyed being the president and feel like I need to make a motion that I get to have a 4 year term instead of a 1 year. But I really do feel like I’ve made a tiny difference so far and really am anxious/excited about the upcoming spring and implementing some new ideas and such. This month we’re sponsoring a Christmas tree at a local Christmas tree trail (it’s for charity) and decorating it next Friday. This is one of those moments where I had an idea and people liked it and were on board with it. Obviously if it fails it’s on me but if it succeeds? It’s because I suggested the idea and was gung ho about it happening. It’s a good feeling.

Also, in case you missed it, my sister and I did Trunk or Treat at our home church before Halloween and dressed up as Ghostbusters. Honestly, I think we were both hot and tired by the end of it (they had it in the middle of the afternoon and I’m pretty sure it got up to 80 that day) but we had SUCH a fun time getting ready. I really love bonding with my sister!

Also, in case you missed it, Gilmore Girls has been on Netflix and that has taken up my last month and a half. I have about 3 episodes left of season 7, which I hope to finish this weekend. Be prepare for some major posting after I’m finished. I also managed to pick Gone With the Wind back up and am soooo into it. Like I really don’t want to put it down and wish I could read it for hours. Be prepared for some major posting of this as well after I’m finished!

I FINALLY got my own office at work and I am a super happy camper. It’s pretty sparse and could use some decorating, but right now it’s great to have a little space of my own. Although, to be honest, this is more work space than I have ever had in my entire working life, so I’m totally cool with that.

I think that’s about it for now… There have been some other things going on, but nothing that really would interest anyone on here. Very excited to get The Grown-Up YA back up and running and hope that you are too! 🙂

  1. Lots of good stuff going on for you- YAY! I LOVE Chicago, have been two or three times in my life and definitely need to go back again some day. Also I kinda wish I lived in Alabama so I could join your alumnae chapter. I miss doing the events with the alumnae group I was in in Arizona.

  2. You’ve certainly been busy! I’ve never been to Chicago but I would love to go. I’m glad you had such a great time. And your own office!!! Look at all that storage space! My desk is right in the middle of the children’s section of the library, which I don’t really mind because I helping patrons, but I’m always wanting more storage.

    1. Chicago was awesome; I’ve never had a desire to go but was so surprised at how much I genuinely loved it. You should definitely try to go! I love how much storage space I have in my office, but honestly have zero to store. I’m going to have to find something!
