Miniviews – Gilded Ashes

There seems to be a TON of these novellas out there, and I really love them oh so much, but it’s really REALLY hard to write a full review about them! So I give you Miniviews! Miniature versions of my reviews that are perfectly designed for all the lovely novellas/short stories!

Novella: Gilded Ashes by Rosamund Hodge

book gilded ashes

Series: Cruel Beauty (sort of… it’s a completely different story but it takes place in the same universe)

Character Focus: Maia (who is new)

Spoiler? None, because it’s a completely different story.

Must Read? If you enjoyed Cruel Beauty, I would definitely suggest this one. Or if maybe you’ve been on the fence about Cruel Beauty, you might want to try this one to see how you enjoy Hodge’s writing. Gilded Ashes really has nothing to do with Cruel Beauty as far as plot or characters, but it goes very nicely as a companion to Cruel Beauty.

Final Thoughts: I actually really enjoyed this little retelling of Cinderella! It was kind of different, lots of twists and darker elements. I also enjoyed the personification of the prince, Anax, and watching Maia and him interact. Actually, all of the characters were so well written and had much more depth than the original fairy tale. Definitely worth checking out!
