Top Ten Tuesday – Books I want to drink cocoa with

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they come up with a topic and invite whoever wants to add their own list to their own blog.

I wrote this back in the fall… so bear with me!

Hooray! It’s FINALLY fall around here and I could not be happier. The smell of apple cinnamon wafting through the air, a crisp bite in the wind, snuggling under the blankets at night… Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year and I must say I anticipate it all year long. Something else I love to do in the fall is read. I read like it’s nobody’s business during the chilly fall nights. And curling up with a cup of hot cocoa (or cider) and a good book makes my fall nights perfect.

Today’s Top Ten are the Top Ten Books I’d like to snuggle up with a cup of cocoa while reading:

Princess Forever – This is by far my favorite in the Princess Diaries series because HELLO! Mia and Michael finally have a fairy tale ending and it gives me the warm tinglies.

The Hunger Games – I’m in the middle of rereading this series and it’s no joke like coming home. Just like fall feels!

The Diviners – Just started this one and I am LOVING it. If I didn’t already have plans over the weekend I would spend the entire weekend absorbing this book.

Jellicoe Road – I may be pretending Jonah is drinking hot cocoa with me.

Anna and the French Kiss – I usually reserve kissy fun books for the summer and spring, but this one just makes me want to curl up and cuddle!

Chaos Walking Trilogy – Oh lord… these books need some hot cocoa!

Throne of Glass – Although a little more actiony for curling up with cocoa, the characters in this book warm my heart. I’d love to spend a chilly afternoon with them!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – I’m a huge fan of creepy books, but this one really whet my whistle and made me realize just HOW MUCH I love them!

Grave Mercy – What I’ve loved most about YA books is that they’re so different from what I grew up reading. Grave Mercy was so much like a historical romance novel (in a good way) that it made me realize that I kind of miss those books!

Fire – Need not explain.

Really, narrowing it down to 10 was RIDICULOUS!!!

  1. Great list of cozy reads. I need to curl up with the Diviners, Jellicoe Road and Grave Mercy soon. And Anna is perfect because they have the chocolat chaud in the book!

And now for some reason I’m craving cocoa! Funny how that happens.

    1. I forgot about chocolat chaud in Anna! Funny! I’m not so much craving hot chocolate now as I am maybe some FROZEN hot chocolate… it’s kinda hot at the moment!

  2. LOL – It threw me when you said Fall was finally here. I guess I missed the first line of your post! Fall’s my favorite season, even though it never really feels like Autumn here in the Phoenix area. But, I agree that there’s nothing cozier than curling up with a good book, a cup of cocoa and a soft blanket. Ahhhh … that sounds so good right now πŸ™‚

    1. I’m in the South, so we get about a month, maybe two, of fall. Although as soon as September hits I am treating it like Fall, despite the fact that it’s still 90 degrees here!

  3. CHAOS WALKING. Yes, cocoa could help with that intensity. Those are my favorite series. Perhaps next time I read them, I should try some cocoa and maybe I’ll be less emotional and pacing around all over the place?

The Diviners! I really want to read that one! They have the print copy at one of my library systems and the audiobook at the other library system – maybe I could work it out so I could get them simultaneously. I’ve heard good things about that one.

This is a fun topic!! I think it’s hilarious that you wrote this in the fall and it’s spring now.

    1. Haha, I actually wrote it in the fall, but forgot to post it… so it’s stayed in my draft box since then. Then I forgot today was TTT, and since it was a “Pick your own” day I thought why not post it just to have something to post?

Definitely check out The Diviners! I don’t know how I could handle it on audio because there are some slower parts (good, just slow) and… you know… it’s MASSIVE. But it’s very very good!

    1. True story… I don’t really like cocoa either. I think I like the idea of it, but it’s not my favorite. If I get a hot drink I go for some type of flavored tea (mint, chai, spice) or coffee!

  4. Ok, it’s almost summer and here you having me craving a cup of cocoa– haha I’m all for it!! Also thrilled to see that you read Miss Peregrine’s!! I am drawn to that cover every time I see it, but haven’t given it further thought. Maybe I will give it a shot– as long as I have some cocoa to go with it. πŸ˜‰

    1. Miss Peregrine is one of my favorites. It’s a little different and probably nothing like you’re expecting, but I genuinely loved it! I feel like it’s more of a fall, Halloween book though. Perfect time for cocoa! πŸ™‚

  5. Even though it claims to be Spring here in the UK, I could still sit down with a nice hot mug of tea or hot chocolate and snuggle in to a blanket for some good old reading time! Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children would be a great book to do just that with.

    1. Miss Peregrine is fantastic! It’s in the 80s here (southern US) but this weekend is supposed to be back in the low 60s! Crazy! Maybe a good cup of cocoa would be perfect for this weekend! πŸ™‚
