Top Ten Tuesday – New-to-Me Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they come up with a topic and invite whoever wants to add their own list to their own blog.

I read a lot of new books this year. Like… a LOT. And excitingly, a lot of those books were by new authors, so yay. But surprisingly I discovered a lot of authors who I really, really like that have been around for a LONG time!

Today’s Top Ten are my favorite ten new-to-me authors:

Jennifer Echols – Thanks to Amy over at Tripping Over Books, I won a copy of Such a Rush and thus my love of Jennifer Echols was born! I honestly don’t know what’s taken me so long to discover her books!

Ally Carter – HALE!!! Okay, enough fangirling. But seriously, I discovered both the Gallagher Girls series and Heist Society series this year and have been in love with both ever since!

Melina Marchetta – Y’all… this woman is the real deal. I’ve been completely blown away with all her books I’ve read so far (which has only been 3, but there’s still more to come!) and will honestly read anything with her name on it!

Maggie Steifvater  – Although I’ve only read one of her books (The Scorpio Races) I’ve totally fallen for her writing and want to read more, more, more!

Patrick Ness – It started with A Monster Calls and ended with the Chaos Walking trilogy. I will absolutely read anything he writes from now on.

Jackson Pearce – I looooovvveee her! Her fairy tale retellings are chilling and exciting and all the things I love in books!

Julie Kagawa – Do I really need to explain this one? It’s Julie Kagawa! She could write a grocery list and I would treasure it always!

Stephanie Perkins – My heart thanks Stephanie Perkins for causing it to become all fluttery wonderful over St. Clair and Cricket Bell. That’s all.

Kristen Cashore – Nearly forgot her! Her books make my heart swoon, race, and stop! They are fantasy gold to me and I cannot wait to see what she gives us next!

Markus Zusak  – While I’ve only read The Book Thief, this book clearly made Zusak one of my favorites. Great books can do that, you know.

  1. Great choices! I’m totally a Patrick Ness fan girl too. Apparently he’s having 2 books published next year (including 1 YA).

Kristin Cashore made my list (which will be up in 2 weeks). I can’t believe I waited so long to read her books.

  2. I really need to read Chaos Walking and The Book Thief, but kudos on discovering Melina, Allie and Stephanie. And now because of all of your & kiki’s fangirling over Julie Kagawa, I think I might add the Iron Fey to my list.

  3. Oh, your new favorite writers reminds me of how much catching up I need to do… Jellicoe Road, The Scorpio Races, The Book Thief! What have I been doing with all my reading time?

  4. Stephanie Perkins is on my list, too! She is fantastic. I almost included Jennifer Echols, but decided not to, because although I LOVED Major Crush, I really disliked Love Story, and had mixed feelings about The One That I Want.

Glad you discovered some new authors. I did too, and it feels good 🙂

  5. There are SO MANY awesome authors on this list – Melina Marchetta (who has a beautiful way with words), Jennifer Echols (OH THE ROMANCE), Stephanie Perkins (such fun and quirky contemporaries), Maggie Stiefvater (gorgeous prose) and Kristin Cashore (fantasy!) – and I’m excited you got to “meet” them all this year.

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

  6. Great list! Some of them I have read (and agree, they are favorites) and some I have on my TBR, so that’s encouraging me to pick up those books that have been sitting there for MUCH too long!
