Top Ten Tuesday – Books Everybody’s Talking ‘Bout

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they come up with a topic and invite whoever wants to add their own list to their own blog.

This Top Ten Tuesday is the Top Ten Books I’d Hand To Someone Who Says They Don’t Like To Read.

Actually, I’ve already done this one, so I’ve decided to be a rebel this week and do my own thing. Not because I think I know better than the hosts of this fantastic meme but because I personally don’t want to think up ten new books that I’d give to someone who doesn’t read! So for this week’s TTT I’m going to do the Top Ten Books I feel like everyone else but me has read.

Have you ever felt like everyone else knows what’s up and you’re just left wondering what you’re missing? Since I started blogging that’s kind of how I’ve felt about several books. I know they’re awesome because you all talk about them like they’re the holy grail, but I for some reason keep missing the awesomeness! I’ll hear whispers about Cricket or  Jonah Griggs or cyborgs and every time I hear them I nearly pull my hair out because I STILL don’t know what’s so amazing about these things!

Here are ten books that everyone but me seems to have read:

Cinder

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a billion times: I need to read this book. I think I’ve just been put off by the cyborg thing that everything else looks better. But I know they aren’t… I need to read this book.

Jellicoe Road

Everyone and their brother has read this it seems. This is one of the first books I heard of when I began venturing into young adult world and why I haven’t read it yet, I still don’t know.

Across the Universe

I don’t even know what this is about I just know everyone else talks about it and that I need to read it!

Lola and the Boy Next Door

I read Anna and LOVED it. I don’t think I’ve read anything quite as wonderful since. When I finished Anna I should have been bolting to the library or the bookstore to get Lola. Why haven’t I read this yet? WHY HAVEN’T I?!?!

Legend

There was like a month where this popped up at least once a day on everyone’s blogs. Maybe because the cover didn’t stand out quite as much to me I decided it wasn’t as important to read as other books. I think I may be missing out on a great read here.

The Infernal Devices Series

I love the Mortal Instruments series. Like I had major angst over Jace for a good month when I finished City of Fallen Angels. So why didn’t I immediately pick up The Clockwork Angel? I have no explanation.

The Scorpio Races

I honestly haven’t seen too much about this except on that Ryan Gosling site… and then I saw a review for it and was like huh? I guess I AM missing out! I mean, even Ryan knows what’s up!

The Iron Fey Series

Who has two thumbs and hasn’t read this series? This girl.

Blue Bloods

I went as far as checking this book out from the library. I’m pretty sure the library is going to send out a bounty hunter for me because I haven’t returned it… You all say its so good and where is it? Oh, lost in my car.

Graceling

I found this book (for cheap, I might add) at a used book store and was so excited about it! Where is it now? Collecting dust on my bookshelf. Everyone’s seemed to enjoy this one yet I toss it aside for shinier books.

I feel like I read constantly… but these books are getting out of hand! I think I need to take a vacation from the real world and spend it catching up on the literary world. Because these fabulous books aren’t going to read themselves!

  1. Some of these books have been out less than a year so there is lots of time. Jellicoe Road is #1 on my list (in my head) of books I need to read soon. And I agree with you- don’t know why I haven’t picked it up yet.

I still haven’t read the final book of the Iron Fey series. That is very weird of me, especially since I loved all the books.

Think you will love LOLA! Read that one first 🙂

    1. Okay! Okay! Lola will be first! Although I’m sort of in the middle of Clockwork Angel… so Lola will be the first after I finish that one! I’m glad that someone else hasn’t read Jellicoe Road; I was starting to feel alone on that one!

  2. *deep breaths* Ok. I LOVE this list. There’s so many great books on there!! It’s actually also a little bit hilarious because I’ve either read these books and LOVED THEM (Cinder, Lola, Legend, The Scorpio Races, Iron Fey, and Graceling. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them), or I need/want badly to read them myself (Jellicoe Road, Infernal Devices, Blue Bloods, Across the Universe). We can mini-book club!! It’ll be FABULOUS! 🙂

    1. Oh, mini-book club! That sounds like the best idea I’ve heard all day! I think I may just need to make these books a priority because after coming up with this list, I want to read them even more! 🙂

  3. I love this list! And I feel the same way. I’ll never get to all of the books the bloggers love, but there are just some that show up OVER and OVER. Jellicoe Road is high up there, so is Across the Universe. I have no desire to read Cinder, though — the reviews I’ve read make it sound like it’s not for me!

    1. Yeah, I’m still a little touch and go with Cinder. It really doesn’t appeal to me, but all the praise appeals to me to at least see what it’s all about! I dunno… I’m a little wishy-washy on it!
